How do I find my niche?

You want to start a website or blog but you keep asking yourself “How Do I Find My Niche?” or “What should I write about?”

If you have been following my The Daily Bragger for a while, you’ll notice I don’t have a specific niche. That’s okay. A few years ago I was watching an interview from a popular blogger and when he was asked about giving advice to a new blogger he said, “Just write, and eventually your niche would come out.”

If you start a blog or website, just write and post what you feel or what you know. Eventually you’ll find that most of your blog’s articles will start to take on some sort of niche.

Okay, after reading this advice you’re still asking, “How do I find my niche?” Here are a few ways to help you find your niche.

  • Do you have a hobby? If you are passionate about model rockets or dolls, a hobby is always a great niche. There are plenty of people that want to read what you write about when it comes to any hobby.
  • What do you find yourself researching all the time. What subjects are you looking at most on wikipedia? Do you follow politics? Do you have an opinion on current events?
  • Get a notebook and write down a list of 50 things you love to do or talk about. (i.e. hiking, biking, fishing, celebrity gossip, soap operas, teaching, you get the idea)
  • Write why your friends or coworkers ask you for advice. (relationship advice, shopping advice, tax advice, etc.

These are just a few tips to help you find your niche. Also, you can hit up your local library and get a couple books that will help you dig deeper when if comes to finding your niche.

  • Get going.

If you go to , you can get your domain name, set up the web hosting and then if you look under “Applications,” you can install the latest WordPress format.  WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.  WordPress is what you use when you want to work with your blogging software, not fight it.

Sure there are other blogging or website platforms, but once you get into using wordpress for blogging you’ll be amazed at how easy it really is to blog or launch a website.

So how much would it cost to start up a website for cheap?

Depending on what kind of domain you want. It could cost you as little as 1.99 USD. So for less than a cup of hard-to-pronounce starbucks coffee, you could have a domain name. Then for the hosting, it’s as little as 6.95 a month. You can even use paypal with GoDaddy.

Now you know the easiest and cheapest way to start a blog with your own domain name.

A hosting plan is a service that stores your page on a big computer so that when someone types the domain name, they get to see the web page.

So where do you begin?

The best place to get a domain name is at

At GoDaddy you can choose a domain name, register it and begin building a page. Even if you are not a web guru, you can design your own web page for free at GoDaddy.com
. They’ll throw in a free tool just for registering a domain name.

Registering at Godaddy is easy, just follow these simple steps.

  • Go to the home page for GoDaddy.com
    , begin a search for a domain name you want to register by typing it in one of the “Domain Search” boxes on the home page. Click “Go.”
  • Select an additional domain name or multiple domain names from the options provided by GoDaddy.
  • Add to the domain name by clicking the “Yes!” button, or decline them by clicking the “Continue to Checkout” link. Create a new GoDaddy.com
    account by entering the requested personal information or log in to an existing account.
  • Hit the orange “Continue” button and double check your registration information.
