I’m not in Cleveland anymore.

I haven’t really wrote a personal post in a while. Most of you know that I have been a lifelong Clevelander. About a month ago, my family and I moved to South Florida. I liquidated everything and only packed what could fit in a minivan.

I’m in South Florida because my last September, my father-in-law passed, he was killed by a drunk driver. We came down here to help my mother-in-law adjust. They were married for 41 years so there is a big adjustment period.

So I’m here in South Florida trying to adjust too.

The bugs are huge. They have these bugs called Palmetto Bugs…I Googled them and it turns out they are American Cockroaches. I guess the fancy name “Palmetto Bug” is just to soften the blow. To me…they are enormous cockroaches.  AND THEY FLY LIKE RESCUE HELICOPTERS.

The other thing that I’m trying to get used to is the heat and humidity. My hands got tiny blisters within a week of arriving here. I Googled these blisters and it is a from of Eczema brought out from people that aren’t used to the sun. It’s called dihydrosis.  In my entire life I have never had eczema. It must be that my skin has to get acclimated to the rays of sun here.

I do miss my friends, and all other things Cleveland. I especially miss the cheaper living. Gas is a few dimes more down here in South Florida.

If you want to enjoy the nightlife in South Florida, you better have a few more dollars out here than in Cleveland. I bought 3 drinks at a bar in West Palm Beach and the price was 30 dollars. (About 100% more than the price in Cleveland.)

Back to the gas prices…I don’t why they would be higher here, the Gulf of Mexico is not that far away and it’s where they pump all that black gold.

There are some things here in South Florida that are cheaper. FRUITS. Fruit is so cheap here because so many people have fruit trees in their yards. Plus, Florida is the citrus capitol of the United States.

Now that I traded an occasional tornado for an occasional hurricane, how do I feel about hurricanes? I know that if there is a hurricane warning down here…I’ll be the first to start driving to Cleveland.

…..to be continued.

West Palm Beach Realtor

Palm Beach Realtor

After my arrival in West Palm Beach, Florida, I was invited to a BBQ. It was kind of a welcoming of sorts. Brats, steak, and turkey burgers were sizzling on the grill.

At the BBQ I met a very cool and down-to-earth guy named Craig. He is a Palm Beach Realtor. I thought this guy was going to pressure me into buying a house since I was new the the West Palm Beach area. (Right now I’m renting. In a few months, I might be able to purchase a home in West Palm Beach soon.) This wasn’t the case. After some delicious BBQ and some beers, Craig told me everything that the West Palm Beach area had to offer. He gave me the low-down on the Schools in West Palm Beach as well as the crime rate in West Palm Beach.  He seemed like more of an ambassador to the area of Palm Beach than a Realtor in Palm Beach.

I’m not in the market right now to buy a home, but if you need a list of Palm Beach Area Homes for Sale ….Talk to Craig.

It’s sad that I’m leaving Cleveland next week. I’ll surely miss it. I’m moving to Florida. I know that as soon as I leave, the Cavs will win the NBA championship.

While I’m in Florida, I would love to land a job with a West Palm Beach SEO firm or a West Palm Beach internet marketing company. Why? Internet marketing and search engine optimization have been hobbies of mine as some of you know.

You already know that I’m addicted to social media. The Daily Bragger is everywhere.

I have done some SEO and internet marketing work in the past for friends and paid clients. Now it’s time to move from the winters of Cleveland and head to sunny West Palm Beach, Florida.

I’m excited to move to the West Palm Beach area and further my career in social media optimization, search engine optimization or internet marketing while in Palm Beach, Florida.

So hopefully things will work out for my family and I. Maybe I can use my social media marketing, SEO and internet marketing experience to establish a career in West Palm Beach. Wish me luck.

Cleveland – Most Miserable City In The U.S.

Cleveland – Most Miserable City In The U.S.

I just finished reading a piece in Forbes.com.  Cleveland topped the list again in Forbes.com, this time for most miserable city in the U.S.  I am a Clevelander and I’m not miserable, but I know that the city does have its troubles.  Wait, the city has a lot of trouble.

When you lay-off cops, you employ crime.

People are moving out of the city at an alarming rate.

There is almost a 20% foreclosure rate.

Drive through any neighborhood, especially the east-side and you will see some of the most beautiful houses in the world boarded up.

The article goes on to say

“This year Cleveland takes the top spot in our third annual ranking of America’s Most Miserable Cities. Cleveland secured the position thanks to its high unemployment, high taxes, lousy weather, corruption by public officials and crummy sports teams (Cavaliers of the NBA excepted).”

Click here to see the entire article.

I was born and raised here. The people aren’t miserable….

What am I going to do about living in the most miserable city in the nation? Well I’m not miserable, but I am moving out of the state in March. I’ll miss Cleveland. I hope it can shine again in the media eyes again.

If you want to read a great post about Cleveland and what it has to offer. Read this post from one of my favorite bloggers.

GO CAVS!!!!!

A Correction and Apology to Reporter Janet Cho

In a blog post I that wrote not long ago, I failed to give credit to the source or a link back to the original article. I was upset that the City of Brooklyn Ohio raised taxes and that it could lead to American Greetings moving out of the area. I hate when hear that people may be getting laid-off. I know, I’m one of these statistics. I lost my job in April of 2009.  In my frustration and impatience, I failed to cite Janet Cho as the source of the original article.

Janet is a great reporter in the City of Cleveland. She’s an asset to the business community in Cleveland.

We at The Daily Bragger offer an apology to Janet.

Buying a Domain Name

Buying a Domain Name

There are literally   thousands of places you can buy a domain name. There are three companies that I have bought domain names from. Some of the cheapest domain names I have bought were at GoDaddy. Not does GoDaddy have lower prices than most companies, they have superior customer service.  I personally have never had a problem with GoDaddy.

Even GoDaddy’s webhosting plans are affordable.

If you are starting a blog or website, I would highly recommend using GoDaddy.  If you want to install Wordpress on your website, the easiest way to install Wordpress is to get a GoDaddy account and with one click you can have Wordpress installed on your server without any trouble.

I have tried to install Wordpress on a Yahoo webhosting account but there were too many problems.

You can compare GoDaddy to other domain registrars below.

Selling Nostalgia: Coke In A Bottle

There’s a ritual I have with my son. I pick him up from school and when he tells me about something he learned or tells me his behavior was good, I reward him.  We usually stop at a store and I’ll buy him an afternoon snack. Usually it’s a muffin, some dark chocolate (his favorite) or a soda. (Pop… if you are in the midwest.)

Today, my son picked up a muffin and then he wanted something to drink with it. At the store he noticed a strange bottle of Coca Cola. It wasn’t the usual plastic bottle. It was a small glass bottle of coke.  “Dad, what kind of Coke is that?” I told my son that’s how I remember Coca Cola as a kid. It was in a bottle and you couldn’t twist off cap.

Coke in a Bottle

Coke in a Bottle

Just then, I had flashbacks to when I was a kid.  Hot days, fishing, and getting a hair cut at the local barber shop came rushing in to my head and all with all these memories I had a bottle of Coke in my hand. WOW!!!

Sure people will say that Coca Cola isn’t the right thing to give a 7 year-old, but heck, this is nostalgia. I bought the Coke for my son and pried the top open in the car and we had a nice conversation about old Coca Cola machines.

So Coca Cola sold me on nostalgia. It’s a pretty ice cold and refreshing  marketing technique and it worked. It was also nice to share a coke with my son and talk about the old days.

We had a Coke and smile.

Palm Beach Real Estate

Palm Beach Real Estate

I was vacationing in south Florida last year and I noticed something about the houses on Palm Beach Island, otherwise known as the Town of Palm Beach. The property in Palm Beach were some of the biggest and most beautiful houses I have ever seen in my life. Palm Beach is home to some of the richest people of the world. Even Donald Trump has homes in Palm Beach.

Palm Beach Real Estate

Palm Beach Real Estate

Can you call these homes or investment properties in Palm Beach? I guess you could call them both. Palm Beach is a beautiful area of Florida. Driving through the town reminded me of pictures I have seen of Beverly Hills.

I looked at the real estate listings for Palm Beach, Florida and couldn’t believe the prices on some of these homes. Well, I guess I can’t really call them homes, more like castles or mansions. The Palm Beach Real Estate is just simply fascinated myself. If I had the money I would probably buy some property in Palm Beach.  There weren’t too many homes for sale in Palm Beach Florida that’s because I think that the people that own property in Palm Beach are snow bunnies and keep these houses to themselves so they can fly down to the area in the winter.

Could a guy like me afford a great piece of Palm Beach Real Estate? Probably not. But in any case I’ll keep saving my pennies so that one day I could possibly afford to buy property in Palm Beach. Maybe a brick.

If you want to see some of these beautiful homes please check out Town of Palm Beach Real Estate

What is the official language of the United States?

What is the official language of the United States?

I have to keep reminding myself to keep the politics off Facebook and keep it on the Bragger.

You get mad when you are asked to press #1 for English, why? The United States has no official language. Some states have declared that they will only conduct legislative business using English.  However English is not the official language on the United States….either is Spanish, German, Polish or any other language.

People still get mad. Aren’t you forgetting that more than half of the U.S was colonized by Spain at one time?

The U.S. even owns a Spanish-Speaking territory. Puerto Rico. Do Puerto Ricans HAVE to learn English? Of course they don’t.

There is no law in the United States that prohibits anyone from speaking their native language.  Until then….you have the right to choose. Press 1 for English or Press 1 for Spanish.
