Keep Your Readers Lingering (Kind Of Like a Fart.)

Farting is fun, funny, can make someone feel angry, and disgusted.

(That’s really not a bad thing.)

"I feel gassy."

There’s an old saying: “People remember one-third of what they read, one-half of what they hear, but 100% of what they feel.” How do people feel when they read your blog? When I write, I try to make the reader create a feeling inside themselves. I try to make the reader laugh, think and even get mad.

Getting a reader angry or mad at one of your posts may be a good thing. The reader might send a mass email to everyone he knows telling them how your blog pissed him off with a link included in his email.  People remember what pisses them off more than they remember what makes them happy. If people remember what makes them happy 100% of the time, pharmaceutical companies that sell depression medication would go bankrupt. I try to make the reader imagine that they are in another world or dreaming about becoming a great blogger or marketer. Invoke the reader to feel something and they will come back again and again. (Kind of like a bad case of gas.)

I’m Listening To WTAM In Cleveland and Reading News

Radio Tonight

So I decided not to go out tonight or drink any beer tonight.  I decided to listen to some Cleveland talk radio tonight. The Dave Ramos Show starts at 10pm. I’m not sure what Dave is going to talk about but he is certainly an entertaining character. I’m glad Dave has his own show. WTAM was wasting his talents on weekday morning traffic reports.

Wait Until They Count The Ballots

Ohio is in the news again for possible election tampering. It seems as if were going to be counting ballots in the Supreme Court until Inauguration day.

Economic Depression

How can a depression effect Cleveland? It’s already depressed. If you are already poor how worse can it get?

Payday Loans In Ohio

Ohio has an issue on the ballot to shut these places down. It’s unbelievable because these are the only lending instituions loaning out any money in Ohio.

Should I Withdraw My 401k? – So You Ask.

Should you withdraw your 401k during the turbulent time in the stock market? The answer is no!

You might be looking at your 401k statement and panicking. Don’t panic. Don’t even look at that statement. Throw it out. When the stock market is is down like it is now, you should contribute MORE money to your 401k. Stock will be at an all-time low and you’ll be getting stocks at a steal. This is your time to take advantage of the low stock prices.

Believe me, I started to look at my 401k statement but then before I could really examine it, I tossed it. See, I’m a lower middle class guy. I don’t have millions of dollars invested in my 401k.

The people who are really going to take a hit from the stock market are the big guys who have millions in the stock market bought on margin. Margin trading is when you borrow money from a broker to buy stock in hopes it will go up. If you buy on margin and the stock drops there are two big losers. The big losers are the banks that loaned the investor the money to buy stocks and the investor who lost money on the the stock plunged. If the investor is unable to pay back the money that he was loaned that is a double whammy. This is one of the factors that may have contributed to the great depression. There were too many borrowers and nobody was able to pay back the loans they go to either invest in the market.

If you are middle class, like me, you don’t buy stocks on margin. Your 401k is managed by a brokerage firm. Their job is make the best deals to make your funds grow.

But you can do your part, increase the amount you contribute to your 401k. Sure the stock market might even drop further, when it does, contribute more to your 401k again. When the market increases and gets back on its feet, you’ll thank yourself.

Google Blog Search Gets a Makeover

New LookGoogle updated their blog search homepage.  You can actually see the number of blogs that were posted about a certain topic. This can be helpful for SEO purposes as well to see what all the hype is in the blogesphere. According to a statement from the official Google Blog,

Today, we’re pleased to launch a new homepage for Google Blog Search so that you too can browse and discover the most interesting stories in the blogosphere. Adapting some of the technology pioneered by Google News, we’re now showing categories on the left side of the website and organizing the blog posts within those categories into clusters, which are groupings of posts about the same story or event. Grouping them in clusters lets you see the best posts on a story or get a variety of perspectives. When you look within a cluster, you’ll find a collection of the most interesting and recent posts on the topic, along with a timeline graph that shows you how the story is gaining momentum in the blogosphere.
