Cold Concoction – Homemade Cold Remedies

Rum

Rum

Ginger

Cold season is here and I have been hit by the bug. A sore throat, coughing, runny nose and everything else that went along with a bad cold took over my entire being.  Sure. I could have ate some chicken soup, but I knew that there was something out there that could knock this sucker out.

My mother-in-law, who is Puerto Rican, gave me a remedy a while back. It called for making some very strong ginger tea. Raw ginger root, grated and boiled in distilled water actually made my nose turn into a faucet. My sinuses were drained and I could breathe easier. Ginger is also good for an upset stomach. I guess that is why mom always said to drink ginger ale when you were sick. But if you look at your favorite ginger ale, you’ll discover that there isn’t really any ginger in it.

I really liked the effects ginger had on my cold in the past, but what if I could make this homemade cold remedy better.  There had to be a way I could incorporate ginger and some other ingredients to battle this cold.

After searching homemade cold remedies, I came across a blog called, Smith Family Recipes & Stories.

Lemon

Lemon

In this blog, there was a recipe for making a homemade cold remedy called Lemon Ginger Toddy with Rum and Red Pepper. I bought all the ingredients that I needed to make this concoction and I gave it a try. According to the blog, Smith Family Recipes and Stories, here’s what you have to do with the ingredients.

1 1/4 cups water
1 T honey
juice of 1 lemon or lime
several slices fresh or candied ginger
1 tsp rum
1 fresh or dried red pepper, undisturbed

Boil the ginger and the whole pepper together in the water for ten minutes or so.

Put honey and lemon juice in a mug, and pour the hot ginger-pepper water in.

After making this homemade cold remedy, I drank it. Minutes later, I was amazed. My sinuses were opening up, my cough was calming and my sore throat was feeling good. (I was also feeling really good, thanks to the high-grade rum that I used.)

Cold season is here. Health care expenses are really high. Save yourself time and money by making a homemade cold remedy. If they are good for me, I’m sure they would work good for you. Do your research and experiment a little bit.

It’s that time of year when beer companies and microbreweries come out with their “special” fall ales. Here in this video, I give Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale a try.

Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale will be available for a limited time until mid-December, with a winter brew to follow in January, a spring brew in April and a summer brew in July. It is available at bars and clubs across the country and has 5.5 percent alcohol by volume.

After A Bad Day, I Laughed So Hard That I Peed.

I had a really bad day today. But after all the crap that I went through today, I still managed to laugh so hard that I almost pissed my britches. And it’s all because of this video about Obama, McCain and Palin showing off their dancing skills. Toward the end of the movie check out Palin “Droppin’ it like it’s hot.”

Have a great day or night. Keep on reading, watching and listening to the Daily Bragger.

Germs On Cell Phones?

In 2006, British microbiologist claimed that the average cell phone carries more germs per square inch than doorknobs, the soles of shoes, even toilet seats.

The Daily Mail newspaper quotes Joanna Verran, a professor of microbiology at Manchester Metropolitan

Camera Phone In Bathroom Stall

University as saying, “Mobile phones are stored in bags or pockets, are handled frequently and held close

to the face. In other words, they come into contact with more parts of our body and a wider range of bacteria than toilet seats. The phones (from which cultures were taken) contained more skin bacteria than any other

object. This could be due to the fact that this type of bacteria increase in high temperatures and our phones are perfect for breeding these germs as they are kept warm and cozy in pockets, handbags and briefcases.”

So, could cell phones be a health hazard?

Not really, we are immune to most germs. But just think about it next time you want to borrow a friend’s cell phone. You really don’t know where they were holding thier last conversation.

Video Sarah Palin On Saturday Night Live

In case you missed it, here is Sarah Palin’s appearance on Saturday Night Live. (She appears 2 minutes and 36 seconds into the video.) In my opinion, she actually surprised me with her performance. It’s funny to me to see political candidates showcase their funny side. Sure Sarah Palin on SNL was a sure way to get some more exposure for the McCain-Palin ticket, but it was a fun and entertaining bit. Here is the video of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live.

Not all votes are equal, and the same rings true for Backlinks, but we can all agree that attaining more Backlinks (healthy ones) is a key integral part of your website and it’s rankings. Having said that, the question I get the most, and one I see often asked in forums and other SEO blogs is, “How can I get more backlinks?”.

Joe the Plumber Wins Debate and Government Contracts.

Political Humor  – The Daily Bragger

Joe Wurzelbacher – Just call him Joe the plumber. Say it ain’t so Joe.

Joe the Plumber had McCain’s crack team of advisers tell his story. Now Joe the plumber is going to get a lot of business. Joe the plumber will forever go down in history as one of most famous plumbers in history.

Here’s to you Joe the Plumber! LONG LIVE PLUMBERS CRACK

However, today I walked into Walmart for a toaster and they gave me a free bank.

Who is Joe the Plumber?

He’s Joe Wurzelbacher, an Ohio man looking to buy a plumbing business who came to symbolize the middle class in Wednesday night’s presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain.

Days earlier, Joe the Plumber had told Obama that the Democrat’s tax plan would keep him from buying the business. McCain, the Republican candidate, cited Joe’s exchange with Obama when he was asked about his tax plan and why it would be better for the country than Obama’s.

Wurzelbacher was mentioned several times during the debate.

So what does he have to say about literally being at the center of the debate.

He says his name being mentioned in the campaign is “pretty surreal.”

Can you say “Government contracts?”

The Video That is Making Republicans Look Ugly – Viral Video

Blogging News

(Cleveland, Ohio) Cleveland Blogger, Tim Russo, publisher of Blogger Interrupted has some video that he shot at a recent McCain-Palin Rally in Strongsville, Ohio. He asked some McCain supporters a few questions and it made the McCain supporters look ugly. The main question was “Is Obama a terrorist?” I was surprised when I heard the answers from the McCain supporters. The video is going viral. Look for all of the major networks to pick up his story.

Here is the video from his blog.
