Pulling out my hair – But I’m Bald

Sometimes stress will get the best of us. Especially if you are a parent like I am. I have an 8 year old and one on the way. (It’s a boy, due near the end of November.)

I’m dieting and I want to eat a car. My son is an A+  student but his mouth gets him in trouble. There aren’t enough hours in the day. I’m getting ready for the birth of our newborn soon.

I’m bald and I have no hair to pull.

Yes, stress is a part of life. It’s all how we handle it. Sometimes I feel like I lose my mind and other times I just try to meditate the stress away.  For me, the best way to handle stress is to blow off some steam, meditate and then handle the situation. Now I would not do this in case there was an emergency…I would act right away in an emergency. But when stress feels like it’s eating you alive just breathe. Do something to get your mind off it.  I like to watch stuff that makes me laugh. When I’m stressed, I want to surround myself with comedy and funny people.

My wife says: “Tommy, sometimes you just have to say “F@#k it.”

But in all reality, if I don’t like something, I should change it. Hence, my appetite to eat a Cadillac.

Do Hotels Take Advantage of Spanish Speaking Workers?

Do big hotel chains take advantage of non-English speaking workers? You bet your clean towel they do.

I have traveled around the country and stayed at a lot of hotels. (I was a Greyhound Bus Driver for years.)

I noticed that when I was staying at big chain hotels, the housekeepers were most always from a Spanish-speaking country. They didn’t know too much English except for the basics. Nothing conversational. While staying at these big chain hotels I would usually start a conversation with the housekeepers. I do speak Spanish.

Spanish Hotel Maids

So how do these big hotel chains actually take advantage of non-English speaking hotel workers? Hotels are able to keep pay low for non-English because most of these workers are scared that they will lose their jobs. They won’t complain or ask thier superiors for an increase in pay. These are minimum wage workers. They work jobs that a lot of people won’t don’t want. But the reason for a hotel to hire a non-English speaker is that they won’t cause any trouble. They will come to work and do their job without questioning anything.  Also, a lot of these housekeepers come from countries where they were making less than a dollar a day. To make minimum wage in this country is a blessing for most of them. But from the information that I have gathered they are being taken advantage of.

I was even told by one of these hotel workers that if they got an application from an English speaking average Jane, they would rip up the application. Why? The housekeepers needed the hours to work. Hiring another worker may spread the work thin. The other reason was that they didn’t want someone to work their that didn’t understand their language.

I tend to believe there is a reason these hotels hire these hardworking people…to keep costs low. I’m all for capitalism , but to take advantage of people that work hard is a shame.

Don’t forget to leaves these housekeepers a tip.

Imperial Avenue Cleveland Murders – Google Street View

I was looking up Imperial Avenue in Cleveland on Google Maps due to the overwhelming news about the bodies being discovered on that street. When I did a Google street view of the house on Imperial Avenue, I saw this picture. It’s some person flipping off the Google Car that took the picture.  You can check it out yourself here. FSC On A Pack of Cigarettes – Time To Quit

A month ago, I was smoking my usual brand of cigarettes and I noticed a funny taste. I also noticed that the cigarrette kept going out by itself.  A week later, I got an email from a friend on Facebook. She said that FSC above the barcode on a pack of cigarettes meant that they were Fire Safe Cigarettes. FSC Above Barcode

I know these cigarettes will kill me, but so will alcohol and jay walking.

It made me think, what kind of other shit are they putting in these cigarettes? If they want to keep messing with chemicals in a cigarettes, just outlaw them.

So after hearing this news. I went to stores in urban areas to get my brand without the FSC marking on the barcode. My brand is not popular in urban areas, so I know that retailers will still have the old “cause a fire and fuck it” type cigarettes. I was right. By 2010 all cigarettes have to be FSC.

But as soon as I get a pack of smokes with FSC above the barcode, I tell the retailer, I don’t want them.

It’s pretty piss-poor that they could pass legislation to make fire safe cigarettes without asking the consumer.

Wouldn’t you be pissed off if you were buying certain diapers for your child and found out that they put a chemical into the diaper to make it a fire safe diaper?

Pretty shitty. It’s time for me to quit smoking.

Can you track your child with GPS

Tracking your child with a GPS.

You turn your back for one second at the mall, and poof… your child isn’t there. You call out there name only to find that they are in the next aisle looking at toys or hiding from you. This is the case most of time and as a father of a 7 year old, it scares me sometimes when he plays outside.

I was doing some reading to find if you can actually track your child with a GPS device and found out there is something out there that can track your child. It will even send you an alert via text message if they get too far away from an area.

It’s called the Insignia Little Buddy Child Tracker.

The Insignia Little Buddy Child Tracker keeps tabs on your child at all times with this small but sophisticated device that combines GPS and cellular technology to provide you with real-time location updates. The small and lightweight Little Buddy transmitter fits easily into a backpack, lunchbox or other receptacle, making it easy for your child to carry so you can check his or her location at any time using a smartphone or computer.

It has customizable safety checks allow you to establish specific times and locations where your child is supposed to be for example, in school causing the device to alert you with a text message if your child leaves the designated area during that time. Additional real-time alerts let you know when the device’s battery is running low so you can take steps to ensure your monitoring isn’t interrupted.

So the next time you want to know if there is a device that can track your child, the answer is..yes there is.

Until they come up with an implantable device that you can put into your teenage daughter, this seem to be the next best thing.

Cleveland Browns Suck But The Fans Won’t Do Anything.

Cleveland Browns Suck

10 years ago, an expansion team called the Cleveland Browns entered the NFL. In that 10 years, the Browns have a record of  54-109.

I’m from Cleveland, and I was a fan of the Browns until they moved to Baltimore.

After the loss Sunday, I am convinced that this team sucks because of the fans. Why do I blame the fans? Because the fans will still buy tickets and support this team during years when they have records of 2-14 or 4-12. (NO TOUCHDOWNS IN 35 QUARTERS.)

As long as the fans buy the tickets and jerseys, the Browns are happy. The Cleveland Browns are a business, they are out to make a buck and they certainly aren’t loosing any money when the fans continue to support a team that constantly fails it’s fans.

If the fans stop buying Cleveland Browns tickets, the organization will lose money and will start to fix this sore in Cleveland.

I watched the Browns play today. I’m not an armchair quarterback by any means. But the Cleveland Browns organization loves the fans. They can be the worst team in the NFL, but the Browns will still sell you tickets.

The Cleveland Browns Suck.

Ohio Unemployment Filing for an Extension.

(The Depression) The Single Men's Unemployed A...
Image via Wikipedia

Ohio’s economy is horrible. It’s hard to find a job and the jobs that are out there aren’t paying that well. The bad economy has driven down the hourly rate for skilled technology jobs. Just the other day on I was going through employment websites and saw that a company wanted to pay 10 dollars an hour for an experienced social media expert and another ad to pay someone minimum wage for a website designer. If skilled jobs in Ohio are going to pay that much, I might as well pack up and move.

So if you are Unemployed in Ohio, here is some information for you if you want to file for an Unemployment Benefit Extension.

Governor Ted Strickland has signed an agreement to provide additional federal unemployment compensation benefits to eligible Ohioans. The extension was made possible as a result of the president’s signing of the Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act of 2008, passed by Congress on June 26, 2008 and amended on November 21, 2008 and February 17, 2009. This legislation will allow up to 33 weeks of additional federal unemployment compensation to eligible Ohioans.

Who is eligible to receive this extension?
Currently unemployed individuals who satisfy all of the following criteria could qualify:

* had an unemployment application in effect as of May 5, 2007, or later;
* have exhausted all regular state UC benefits;
* have no rights to regular UC or extended benefits under any other state unemployment compensation law or federal law or in Canada.

What are individuals eligible for?
Individuals are eligible to receive up to 20 weeks of additional benefits. These benefits are known as Tier 1 benefits. The extended benefit amounts will be the same as claimants’ previous UC benefit amounts, unless there is some other change in circumstances (such as an adjustment in deductions, like child support). Individuals will be expected to continue their work search efforts. An additional 13 weeks of extended benefits, known as Tier 2 benefits, could be payable when a claimant exhausts his/her Tier 1 entitlement.

I think I am eligible for extended benefits. What do I do?
Individuals who exhaust regular unemployment benefits will receive instructions on how to file for these benefits. Those individuals who exhaust the original 20 weeks of (Tier 1) federal benefits will automatically receive a recomputation of their total benefits payable, adding up to 13 weeks of Tier 2 federal extended benefits to their balance.

How long will it take to process my application and start benefit payments?
Once claimants are determined to be eligible for extended benefits, payments will be issued on a routine, weekly or biweekly basis, with their preferred payment method (debit card or electronic funds transfer).

How can I find out if my payment has been issued?
By visiting http://unemployment.ohio.gov or by calling 1-877-OHIO JOB (644-6562) and selecting the option to obtain information about your unemployment compensation claim. Both options require a personal identification number (PIN).

May I file continued claims of extended benefits by telephone?
Yes. Once a favorable determination has been made, continued weeks may be claimed by calling 1-877-OHIO JOB (644-6562) and following the recorded instructions. This option also requires a personal identification number (PIN).

How does this program affect my current benefits?
If you are receiving regular unemployment compensation benefits, you must exhaust those benefits before you can receive extended unemployment benefits. You will receive a notification from the Office of Unemployment Compensation alerting you when your benefits are about to expire. If you are still unemployed, you can apply for the extended benefits by following the instructions on the notification.
If you are receiving other federal benefits—such as Trade Readjustment Allowance (TRA) or Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA)—the federal extended unemployment compensation benefits must be paid before benefits from any other programs. You will receive notification to file an extended unemployment benefits application, and you must comply in order to receive future benefits. Once you have exhausted the extended unemployment benefits, your claim will automatically be converted to the other appropriate program type. Please note that the extended unemployment compensation program will reduce the benefits otherwise payable to individuals who are receiving “basic” Trade Readjustment Allowances or Disaster Unemployment Assistance. For example, the maximum 26 week eligibility for basic TRA would be exhausted for any individual eligible for the maximum 33 weeks of extended unemployment compensation benefits.

How long does this program last?
The last possible effective date for the original 20 weeks (Tier 1) of federal extended benefits is December 20th, 2009. These Tier 1 benefits must be exhausted by the week ending December 26th, 2009 in order to be eligible for the additional 13 weeks (Tier 2) benefits.
The last week ending date that can be paid federal extended benefits is the week ending June 5th, 2010. No federal extended benefits will be paid after that time.

Grandma Attacks News Crew With A Hoe.

Grandma Attacks News Crew With A Hoe.

Cocoa Beach, Florida

Looks like someone’s parenting skills weren’t working too well when the 15-year-old was busted working at a strip club.

When reporters wanted to ask Rosemary Lumpkin about a report she filed with police about her 15-year-old working at a Cocoa strip club, the woman at the home, attacked the camera crew with a hoe….a garden hoe.

“I’m not Rosemary. Why are ya’ll knocking on my door. Hey! Don’t put that camera in my f**** face man. Get off my f**** porch right now! Get the… ****, ****,” yelled the woman.

Neighbors later identified her as the teenager’s grandmother.

Police say the club owners could not provide any IDs on the teenagers who detectives say have been working at Playmates for months. New management has been in place for about two weeks.

You must be 18 to dance in the club.

Cocoa police also said the 15-year-old has not been in school since the 7th grade.
