Written from my phone so excuse the typos.

Do opposites really attract? I used to think this when I was young and dumb. But honestly, people like people who are like themselves.

One of the basic things we look at in friends or someone we are dating is commonality.

Do we both like the same music? Do we both hate the same foods. Commonalities cause good conversation. Commonalities can cause people to relate to one another. Commonalities cause people to like you.

Even if you think you and your friend or lover are complete opposites, you probably have more in common then you actually realize.
So when meeting people and getting to know someone, you’ll notice that the first subjects of your conversation is establishing what is in common.

Bad Date

Bad Date - Probably Nothing in Common

Ever go on a date with someone and they start of the conversation about what they don’t like or what they hate? I bet you aren’t with them any more.

Now by no means am I some sort of relationship guru. But I have studied years of psychology and neuro linguistics for years. But as I said, when I was young and dumb I made the mistake of thinking that opposites attract. From 10 years of studies, I know that if you are the total opposite or have nothing in common with someone you are with, get out now before you have kids with them.

I do miss Cleveland. I’ll be back soon. And when I do come back, I’ll be sure to bring back some Dairymen’s iced tea. Here is a list of things that I miss from Cleveland.

Dairymens Iced Tea – Some of you call this Ghetto Tea, to me it is the most refreshing Iced Tea I ever drank in my life.

Great Lakes Christmas Ale – They won’t ship to Florida and some kook on Ebay was selling them at $9.99 a bottle.

Whiskey Island – Before it became really popular, Whiskey Island was my place to get away and collect my thoughts. Sunday’s were the greatest days there with the little bar there.

My Family – Enough said. Love you Mom!

Cheap Cost of Living – Yes, you could rent a big house for $500 in the West Blvd area.

Lorain Road – I think I counted over 75 dive  bars from W.25th to W.98th. They would even let you smoke in the bars even after they passed the smoking ban.

Brook Park Rd – Do I really need to get into this?

Mr. Hero – They don’t have them down here in the South. I would love a Roman Burger!!!

Fishing – I could identify just about any fish I caught in Lake Erie or Rocky River. Here in Florida they got Marlins and Dolphins and shit that I can’t identify.

The Cavs – I miss going to the Cavs games, but 3 months after I moved down  here, LeGone took his talents here as well.

BW-3′s – C’mon the wings were the bomb!!!

West Side Market – Can I get a melon?

Gallucci’s – I would get a few lbs of Italian Sausage,  some hot peppers and have a grill fest.

I-71 – Compared to I-95, it’s a deserted highway with no traffic.

My friends!

I plan on adding to this list as soon as I do some more thinking.  If you are from Cleveland but not living there, what are some of the things that you miss about the hood.

Most of my friends know me as the “psychologist” some of them know me as the guy who loves to have a good time and make people laugh.  What ever the case may be…I like making someone’s day. If you want to make someone’s day do some of these things. They work for me. I’m sharing them with you.  (Take heed… do one or two a day without expectation. I’m a karma guy. It will make your day too just to make someone else’s day.)

Offer to help no matter how little the task.

Tell a joke.make someones day

Send a funny text.

Give some a hug.

Allow someone to vent. Listen.

Let someone know how appreciated they are.

Give a compliment and mean it!!

Notice when someone wears nice clothes or does their hair (This is important for you guys..always notice when a woman changes something.)

Hold the door open for everyone.

Say thank you.

Offer to buy lunch for a co-worker you don’t really talk to.

Be a big tipper.

Smile

Call your mother.

Buy someone a drink and don’t even tell them you bought it for them.

Listen…really listen to people.

Be yourself…unless you are an asshole.

Give thank you cards.

Shovel snow for a neighbor.

Pay a toll for a person behind you.

If you are going to the store, ask a co-worker if they need anything while you are out.

Share.

Let those close to you know how special they really are.

Call an old friend. If you don’t know what to say..drop them a text or a Facebook message.

Simply surprise someone.

Be humble.

Learn someone’s name you just met and use it. (Nothing sound’s sweeter to a person you just met than using their name…I learned this from my mom.)

Don’t take the last piece of pie…(don’t take the last beer.)

Volunteer.

Bake or make a dinner for someone. If you can’t cook – Google it.

Don’t just say sorry, mean it..show action.

Forgive someone who wronged you. Life is too short to hold grudges.

Offer to clean up, or if they won’t let you…do it when they aren’t around.

I love learning new things. One of the things that I want to learn is how to build iphone or ipad apps. A simple app that gets popular can bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Even if it’s a free app like angry birds, it can gain exposure to a paid app of even licensing to a video game chain.

Learning how to build iphone apps is not that hard from what I read. There are plenty of courses out there and you don’t need to be a hardcore programmer.

In late August of 2011, I was changing a flat tire. I strained my back pretty bad I thought. A week or two later I took my oldest son golfing and later that day, my back and the front of my leg had shooting pain. The pain was so intense that I missed an entire week of work.

I had enough and I went to JFK Emergency in Boynton Beach. They didn’t even have room for me. They had me sit on a gurney in the hall way. A doctor spoke to me for 15 seconds, then after 10 minutes, they gave me narcotics and sent me on my way. The bill… $1650!!! For what? They didn’t treat me. That is not medicine. That is bullshit!

A week after being high on pain pills, I decided to look for a chiropractor in the West Palm Beach area.  I really never been to a chiropractor in my life. My vision of chiropractor was a big guy that throws you around the room and cracks your back. I was pretty reluctant to go to a chiropractor in West Palm Beach.

Then a co-worker of mine told me about a chiropractor in Palm Beach Gardens…. his name…Dr. Thaw. Pretty cool name for a chiro that would help my frozen back. (I’m sure he gets that joke all the time.)

Anyway, I traveled to Palm Beach Gardens and went to see Dr. Thaw. I must say that he is a spectacular individual. This man treated me for my pain by correcting the problem and working with me instead of what the Emergency Room did.

After about 3 weeks of treatment. I was able to walk normally again. I was able to pick up my infant son.

I owe Dr. Thaw a big thank you and that is exactly what I’m doing by writing this to the masses.
